Hatice Türk, from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, was hosted from 01/09/2023 to 30/09/2023 by Paolo Benettin at the Laboratory of Ecohydrology, ECHO, at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
Thanks to WATSON’s STSM, I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Paolo Benettin at the Laboratory of Ecohydrology, ECHO, at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. During my visit, I had a great time participating in a diverse range of activities, benefited from collaboration with experts from EPFL, and took advantage of opportunities for professional networking. Working closely with Paolo, I had in in-depth discussions on hydrology, catchment-scale modelling, and the application of StorAge Selection (SAS) functions to evaluate hydrological controls on the time-variant age of stream flow. I had fruitful discussions on the use of environmental tracers for forward and backward travel time distribution. Furthermore, I had the chance to deepen my knowledge about isotope fractionation on real-world measurements from three headwater catchments. In summary, the STSM was highly successful in helping me work more closely with experts in the field. This work has helped us create a solid plan that will be part of a future research paper.
