Grantee story: Francisco Javier Muñoz Gálvez

I’m Francisco, biologist and PhD student at CEBAS-CSIC (Murcia, Spain) in the Soil and Water Conservation Research Group. My PhD research activity is focused on plant water and nutrient use strategies in Mediterranean and dry ecosystems. Thanks to WATSON COST Action, I could do a Short Term Scientific Mission at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL in Zurich (Switzerland) with Dr. Marco Lehmann group.

The main objective for this STMS were to learn the leaf cellulose extraction protocol for stable isotope analysis. I learn this technique using a batch of samples from my PhD project, exploring the particularities of Mediterranean species. During this STSM, I could also built new network relationship, exchange ideas and meet a fantastic group of people.
